Who We Are

Mbaise is located in Imo State in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria in West Africa. In Igbo (also spelled “Ibo” and pronounced E’bO) language which is the native language, the name – “Mbaise” literally means “Five Towns”.
Mbaise is made up five towns and they are Agbaja, Ahiara, Ekwerazu, Ezinihitte and Oke-Uvuru. The towns are grouped into three local government areas (LGAs), namely: Aboh-Mbaise, Ahiazu-Mbaise and Ezinihitte-Mbaise LGAs.

Mbaise has a rich cultural heritage in Igbo land. The great “Abigbo” dance troupe, “Oji” Mbaise, which celebrates the significance of the kola nut, “Iri-ji” Mbaise, an annual celebration of the Ney Yam harvest are all festivities for which Mbaise is well-known in Nigeria and beyond.

Mbaise people are also known for starting self-help projects. As a result, most of the infrastructures in Mbaise are products of private initiatives and communal efforts. Mbaise Progressive Union was created in 2000 in Austin Texas, to enable communication between the various Mbaise organizations and individuals residing outside Nigeria, especially in Europe and the United States. We will attempt to find ways to focus our resources in order to respond to the needs of our homeland, Mbaise.
